Kerala Style Fish Curry

Kerala style fish curry is usually made in earthen pots which gives a nice flavor to the dish. Kerala recipes are made with coconut oil to get the authentic taste. Kerala is a coastal region so it is famous for sea foods. Fish curry is best served with rice.

Kerala style fish curry


Ingredients: 

Fish: 500 gms
Ginger grated: 1tsp
Garlic grated: 1tsp
Onion: 1
Green Chilly: 1
Tomato: 1
Tamarind: 1 tsp
Chilly Powder: 2tsp
Coriander Powder: 2tsp
Turmeric Powder: 1/4 tsp
Pepper Powder: 1/2 tsp
Coconut Milk: 1/4 cup
Coconut oil: 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds: 1/4 tsp
Methi (fenugreek) seeds: 5-6 no.
Curry leaves: 7-8 no.s

Method:

1. In an earthen pot, pour coconut oil and splutter mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
2. Add ginger, garlic, curry leaves and onion and saute it till onion turns translucent.
3. Add chopped tomato ans saute well.
4. Mix together turmeric powder, chilly powder,  coriander powder and pepper powder in a small bowl and add little water to make a paste.
5. Add the paste in step 4 to the sauted mixture. Mix well and add enough water along with the tamarind water.
6. Add the fish pieces when the masala mixture starts boiling. Cover the lid and cook.
7. Once the fish is cooked add coconut milk to the mixture and heat for 5 mins.
8. Remove from stove and serve hot with rice.
